The author John Gardener wrote the book Grendal based on the ancient Saxon poem Beowulf.
Roly Drower was so enthralled by this tome that he produced a complete music CD inspired by its imagery.
At one point, in the book, a dragon is explaining patiently and didactically that humans are in fact very stupid and are capable of grasping nothing but the simplest of concepts. For example,
Snaggle is a pig and pigs like cheese, so if Snaggle wont eat his dinner
Since Snaggle is a pig and pigs like cheese, if Snaggle wont eat try cheese.
Roly asked me to write some verse related to this concept. I do solemnly swear that I was not under the influence of any chemical substances at the time.
However Roly was not always the easiest person to collaborate with and perhaps I was not at my most simpatico at the time.
Mild cheddar is gorgeous Caerphilly top hole Red Leicester makes him smile for a while
Just sprinkle it finely and he’ll dine divinely Then snooze in his sty in fine style
Mama mia Gorgonzola Double Gloucester is great Or Parmesan garnished with dill
He’s organically grown with a taste all his own Try some cheese flavoured Chops on the grill.
Roly was incensed!
Notwithstanding that Snaggle was the figment of a dragons imagination.
A dragon which had incidentally been slain by Beowulf thirteen centuries before.
What on Earth was I thinking about? How dare I exterminate Snaggle.
And so!
He sensed danger threaten and quietly absconded to win the supreme at the Royal
So now he eats gouda and snorts strange white powder as glee maidens bath him in oil.
